6700 premium,
Other

My problem with it ,it is 6700 premium,it’s keep messaging me on the screen to clean the papers from the back, but it’s empty.!

when I start it directly the message will pup up ,it doesn’t give me the time to do the rest processing,

I change the main module,( nothing changes)

I checked the lower mechanism for feeding,( looks normal)

but I realize, that the head is stopping in the opposite position ( on the left),it is not normal.

how it’s happened, after changing the head connector cables, the door went down accidentally,

so it could be a sencer,or some place,( I don’t know)

i love this printer, because of the quality of it , and not complex ,like my 8710 pro

,thanks for the help of the hp and the people how had the same problem like me.

@Mob11, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Let’s go through everything systematically:

Disconnect and Reset

Power off the printer.

Unplug the power cord and USB cable.

Wait at least 60 seconds with the printer unplugged.

While unplugged, open the front and rear doors and move the carriage (printhead) gently by hand from left to right.

If it’s stuck at the far left, it often means the encoder strip or sensor isn’t reading the carriage’s position.

Check for sensor or obstruction issues

Look inside the carriage path (where the printhead slides):

Ensure the clear plastic encoder strip (a thin transparent strip with fine lines) is not dirty or unhooked from either side.

If it is smudged, wipe it gently with a soft lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Ensure the paper path sensors under the print path are not blocked by a tiny piece of torn paper or ink buildup.

There’s a black paper sensor flag near the rear feed rollers — make sure it moves freely.

Rear sensor and feed roller check

Remove the rear access door.

You’ll see a black plastic paper feed roller and a gray pinch roller assembly.

Rotate the rollers manually to ensure they move smoothly and spring back.

On the left side of this roller area, there’s a small black plastic lever (paper sensor flag) — make sure it moves freely and isn’t stuck in the “down” position (which triggers a false jam).

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Mr. Grap-sanchau

thanks so much for your reply.

I did all the reset, from the cables during a days, and I replaced the main circuit,no progress

the sensor down, and the roller has been checked to.

I wiped the strip for the head, everything is the same,

I think the plastic transparent disc ,( the principal synchronization master)is the one, located on the left covered with protector

this unit needs to be checked and rest the head movement, and the scanner lamp,And the paper feeders.

Thanks for your help,I really appreciate it,I did the steps you told me from 2 months.

when I cleaned it ,thanks again,my friend.

Hi @Mob11,

Thank you for your detailed update and for your dedication in troubleshooting the HP Officejet 6700 Premium — we understand how important this printer is to you.

I just wanted to follow up and ask: Is the issue now resolved, or are you still seeing the “Paper Jam” message on startup?

Based on your last message, it sounds like you're considering that the encoder disk (the plastic transparent disc on the left side) might be involved — that's a great observation. That disc plays a key role in synchronizing the carriage movement, and if it's misaligned, dirty, or damaged, it could cause the printhead to stop incorrectly and show false error messages.

If the issue still persists, the best next step would be to take your printer to an authorized HP service center.

A trained technician can perform a deeper internal diagnostic, especially on components like the encoder disk, carriage assembly sensors, or internal logic board connections, which might require precision tools or replacement parts.
