My HP Laeserjet 100 color MFP M175nw just started telling me the scanner has a paper jam but it does not. I've downloade the software to no avail. Sometimes it will feed without paper but usually won't. I've tried unplugging, resetting printer defaults and searching online until I'm blue in the face. Anyone else having this problem? Hi @gdj1943,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP LaserJet 100 Color MFP M175nw suddenly reports a scanner paper jam even though there’s no paper inside. This usually stems from sensor misreadsdust buildup, or mechanical misalignment.

Fix: False Paper Jam Error in Scanner (HP M175nw)

1. Clean the Scanner and ADF Sensors

Dust or debris on the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) sensors can trigger false jam errors.

  • Turn off and unplug the printer.
  • Open the ADF cover and gently clean:
    • ADF rollers
    • ADF separation pad
    • Paper path sensors
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol.

2. Check for Stuck Paper Fragments

Even tiny scraps of paper can cause jam errors.

  • Open all access doors (ADF, input tray, toner area).
  • Use a flashlight to inspect for:
    • Torn paper bits
    • Stuck labels
    • Dust buildup

3. Reset the Printer

A full reset can clear false jam messages.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power on.

4. Try a Scanner Test Without Paper

If the scanner still reports a jam:

  • Try initiating a scan from the HP software on your PC.
  • If it fails, the issue may be with the ADF sensor or firmware.

5. Update Firmware and Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause miscommunication between the scanner and the control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
