Hi @Huh-Chun-Yip_24,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw printer is printing with a double-layer effect on the paper, there could be a few possible causes and solutions to consider.
- Print Settings: Check your printer settings to ensure that you haven't accidentally enabled a duplex printing feature. Duplex printing is a setting that allows you to print on both sides of the paper. If it's enabled, disable it to avoid the double-layer effect.
- Toner Cartridge Issues: Double printing or ghosting can occur if the toner cartridge is not functioning properly. Try removing the toner cartridges from the printer and gently shaking them to redistribute the toner. Reinstall them and try printing again. If the issue persists, consider replacing the toner cartridges.
- Drum Unit: The drum unit in your printer may be causing the double-layer effect. Open the printer and inspect the drum unit for any signs of damage or wear. If you notice any issues, such as scratches or marks, it may be necessary to replace the drum unit.
- Printer Maintenance: Regularly clean the printer's internal components, such as the transfer roller, fuser, and paper path. Accumulated toner or debris on these parts can lead to print quality issues. Consult your printer's user manual or the HP support website for specific instructions on how to clean and maintain your printer.
- Paper Quality: Ensure that you are using the recommended paper type and quality for your printer. Low-quality or incompatible paper can affect the printing process and result in double-layer prints. Verify that the paper is correctly loaded in the paper tray and that it is not sticking or jamming during the printing process.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Huh-Chun-Yip_24,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw is printing out pages with a double layer or ghosting effect, it could be due to several reasons. Ghosting occurs when the printer repeats an image or text on the page, creating a faint or double image. Here are some common causes and troubleshooting steps.
Toner Cartridge Issues:
- Check if the toner cartridges are properly installed and securely seated. Remove them and reseat them if necessary.
- Ensure that you are using genuine HP toner cartridges. Compatible or refilled cartridges may not perform as expected.
Print Density Settings:
- Adjust the print density or quality settings in the printer driver. Sometimes, using a lower quality setting can reduce ghosting.
Transfer Roller or Drum Issues:
- The transfer roller and drum may be dirty or damaged. Clean them according to your printer's manual or replace them if needed.
Fuser Unit Problems:
- Ghosting can also occur if the fuser unit is not functioning correctly. Check for any issues with the fuser unit, such as damage or wear, and replace it if necessary.
Paper Type and Quality:
- Ensure that you are using the correct type and quality of paper recommended for your printer. Low-quality or improper paper can cause ghosting.
Environmental Factors:
- Extreme temperature and humidity conditions can affect the printing process. Make sure your printer is in a suitable environment.
Driver and Firmware Updates:
- Check for updated printer drivers and firmware from the HP website. Sometimes, software updates can resolve printing issues.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve minor issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

You guys still reply the same troubleshooting step, not even try to guide end-user to any walk-in service centre to solve this issue. Very disappointed for this solution provided.
