Hi @Carole224,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the top of your HP printer is not opening properly after you cleared a paper jam, but the printer is still functioning. Here are a few steps to try.

  • Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall. Wait for a minute before plugging it back in and turning it on. Sometimes this can help reset any mechanisms that may be stuck.
  • Check for Obstructions: Even after clearing a paper jam, there may be a small piece of paper or debris preventing the top from opening fully. Carefully check the area around the top mechanism for any leftover bits.
  • Manually Open the Lid: If the top still won't lift, gently try to open it by pressing down lightly on the printer's lid while lifting it. Avoid using excessive force, as this could damage the hinges or internal components.
  • Check the Lid Hinge Mechanism: Inspect the hinge area of the top. Sometimes the hinges can become misaligned or the springs may get stuck.
  • Reset the Printer: Some HP printers have a reset procedure that could help. Check your printer’s manual or the HP website for specific reset instructions.
  • Try to Unlock the Lid: If your printer has a latch or lock feature to keep the lid closed, ensure it's fully released.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
