HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
iOS

I have just bought n Officejet Pro 7740, twin tray printer. The 2 paper trays adjustable  to take paper up to A3. When extending the try’s with the blue catch t the front right side of either tray, it is not possible to fully close the tray. There papers to be something blocking it mechanically.  The tray stays about 10 cm short of closing.

this is very frustrating. There is no paper jam, the positioning guides for the paper are set to A3, the tray has been extended, the paper tray is not over filled. The problem occurs on both the trays when set to A3 but both work correctly on A4.

I have of course looked on line no found other problems discussed on videos posted but not this.

Help before I send the printer back in frustration.  BTW, why do all HP products seem so flimsy?

I am going to answer my own question to help the next victim of this bad design, or at best bad documentation.  It seems that, when you extend the tray to A3 size, it will not fully close and remains approximately 10 cm  out with the paper showing.  The way I figured it out is to print something to tray 2 while it was still “open” to see whether it would work.  Attempting to do this just indicates the depth of frustration that I had fallen to.

It is bizarre that this is not noted anywhere.

I am glad you found the information and sorry you fell into an abyss of despair before doing so.

In this case, the large-paper loading information is in the Printer User Guide

"NOTE: When you insert the input tray, the input tray extension remains outside of the printer. This is
the expected result.
"

See section To load B-size paper >> Pages 16-19

Reminder to those reading

Relevant to Windows

The IPP / Class driver is not sufficient for printing photo / images on the A3 paper size.

Be sure you have installed the Full Feature Software and that the HP driver is selected in Printer Properties.
