I have a friend with an Envy Inspire 7955e Inkjet with a paper jam error message that I can't clear (photo attached). I've checked everywhere paper could be and all the pathways are clear. I've tried resetting the printer multiple times, and have cleaned all the rollers as suggested in the support documents, but the error message will not go away. Is there anything else I can do, or is the printer toast? I'd hate to think so because it's only about 2-3 years old. Thank you in advance for any assistance or suggestions. 😁2026-02-08 11.22.16.jpg

Hi @GTifeld

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details and for already going through such thorough troubleshooting. I understand how frustrating it is when the paper jam message won’t clear even though the pathways are clear and rollers have been cleaned.

Since you’ve already done the basics, here are some additional steps that can help resolve a persistent jam error:

Check hidden access points
Open the rear access door or duplexer (if installed) and inspect carefully. Even a small torn piece of paper or debris can trigger the sensor.

Inspect the paper tray and guides
Remove the tray completely, check for damage or misalignment, and ensure the guides are snug against the paper stack without pressing too tightly.

Look at the carriage area
Power off the printer, open the ink cartridge access door, and gently move the carriage left and right. Sometimes a small obstruction or misaligned carriage can cause the jam error.

Clean the paper path sensors
Use a clean, lint‑free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to wipe the sensors inside the paper path. Dust or ink buildup can cause false jam detections.

Reset with paper removed
Remove all paper from the tray, restart the printer with the tray empty, and wait until it fully initializes. Then reload fresh paper and try again.

Check firmware updates
From the printer’s control panel, navigate to settings and check for updates. Installing the latest firmware can sometimes clear false error states.

If the error persists after these steps, it usually indicates that a sensor or internal mechanism is stuck or misreading. While the device is only a few years old, mechanical sensors can occasionally fail. At that point, servicing may be required, but the above steps often resolve stubborn jam messages.
