Printer stopped scanning because of paper jam. Removed the jammed paper but no matter what i do, the printer screen tells me I have a Document Feeder Jam. Tried all sorts of suggestions but nothing seems to work.

How do I get this printer to work? I have not been able to use the printer at all because of this for 2 days now.

Any suggestions?

Hi @BillBillyF

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel to be stuck with a Document Feeder Jam message when you’ve already checked and cleared the paper. Thank you for the effort you’ve put in so far—it really helps narrow things down.

Let’s walk through a few steps together to get your printer back to working smoothly:

Power reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power on. This clears any false error states.

Check the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) path

  • Lift the ADF cover and gently inspect the paper path.
  • Look for tiny scraps of paper, dust, or foreign objects that may not be obvious at first glance.
  • Clean the rollers with a lint‑free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.

Inspect the ADF input tray sensors

  • Remove any stack of paper from the tray.
  • Using a flashlight, check the small sensors near the paper entry slot. Dust or debris can block them.
  • Gently wipe the area with a dry, soft cloth.

Test with a single sheet

  • Place one clean sheet of plain paper in the feeder.
  • Try a scan or copy to see if the error clears. This helps confirm if the issue is with paper detection.

Update printer firmware

  • On your Windows PC, open the HP App.
  • Go to your printer settings and check for firmware updates. Installing the latest version often resolves feeder detection errors.

Run Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select your printer, then choose Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the guided steps—it will automatically check for and correct common issues.

If after these steps the message persists, try scanning using the flatbed scanner as a temporary workaround so you can continue working while the feeder issue is addressed.
