Help re 4200e.  When ask to print a spreadsheet, it starts spewing out the paper one sheet at a time without any print, until the paper runs out.  One person suggest a device in end of the feed rollers needs replacing but this is a new machine and I’m not up to disassembling a printer in warranty.  I was in Excel.  I went to another prom and it printed the spreadsheet converted to a pdf.  Will this 4200e only print pdf’s?

Hi @ERON32,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 4200e All-in-One Printer series is experiencing a miscommunication between the software and the printer, rather than a hardware issue, since it printed the PDF version of your spreadsheet. Here's how you can troubleshoot the issue.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly set as the default printer in your operating system.
  • Verify that the correct paper size and type are selected in the print settings. Sometimes incorrect settings can cause issues.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues with certain applications. Visit HP's website to download and install the latest drivers for the HP 4200e.

Excel-Specific Printing Settings:

  • Excel can sometimes send print jobs in an unexpected format. Try these steps:
    • Page Setup: Before printing, check "Page Layout" and "Page Setup" to ensure the margins, paper size, and print area are correctly defined.
    • Print Preview: Use Print Preview in Excel to ensure it displays as expected before printing.
    • Scale to Fit: In the print menu, check that the "Scale to Fit" options are properly set to fit the spreadsheet on the page.

Test Printing from Other Applications:

  • Try printing from other applications, like Word or a web browser, to see if the problem persists. If the issue is limited to Excel, it may be a software-specific problem.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Your printer may need a firmware update. You can check for and install any available updates through the HP  app or HP’s support website.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a bug in Excel or a communication problem between Excel and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Do not be think this was a printer problem .  Think was an Excel problem and a user issue problem and all is well now.
