HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One Printer

The printer pulls paper in and crumples it, then reverses the paper and gives a “paper jam” error. If “ok” is pressed without ANY other “clearing” of the “jam” it will reverse the paper further, then spit it out no problem. Next piece of paper, same thing. If I remove the paper manually, it does the same thing with the next piece. I have taken the thing apart as much as possible, reset, used different paper, etc etc etc. This happened before and I could not fix it, put it away and before I could find a repair place my husband took it out and it printed no problem. It’s been printing fine for a few months and now here we are again.

Hi @lfchapman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One Printer. Here are some steps to help troubleshoot and potentially resolve the “paper jam” error and crumpling issue.

Basic Troubleshooting Steps

Check for Paper Obstructions:

  • Inspect the Paper Path: Even if you’ve checked before, re-examine the entire paper path for any small pieces of torn paper or debris that could cause a jam.
  • Remove the Ink Cartridges: Sometimes, removing the cartridges can give better access to the internal mechanisms. Be careful not to touch the nozzles or the copper contacts.

Clean the Rollers:

  • Dirt and Dust: Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or rubbing alcohol to clean the rollers. Dirt can prevent the rollers from gripping the paper properly.
  • Check the Condition of the Rollers: Ensure that the rollers aren’t worn or damaged. If they appear to be slick or shiny, they may need replacing.

Check Paper Quality:

  • Use the Right Type of Paper: Make sure you are using the correct paper type and size recommended for the printer.
  • Avoid Paper with Curl or Fold: Paper that is curled, wrinkled, or has any defects can lead to jams.

Adjust Paper Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper size and type settings in the printer’s settings match what you are actually using.

Advanced Steps

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Reset to Factory Settings: If the issue persists, consider resetting the printer to its factory settings. You can usually find this option in the printer settings menu.

Update Firmware:

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, issues can be resolved with a firmware update. Check the HP website or use the HP Smart app to see if any updates are available.

Inspect the Feed Assembly:

  • If you’re comfortable, check the feed assembly for any misalignments or damage that could be causing the issue.

Temporary Workaround

If you need to use the printer urgently, you might be able to manually feed the paper one sheet at a time. However, this is just a temporary measure and may not be feasible for regular use.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
