HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

I have a paper jam I can’t clear. It’s underneath white tabs when I open the front!  Hopefully someone can help me. I tried a tweezer to get these small pieces out but it didn’t work.

Hello,

Resolving a Paper Jam in the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740

Paper jams in your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 can sometimes be tricky to clear, especially if small pieces are stuck underneath components like the white tabs. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue:

  1. Turn Off the Printer:

    • First, turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source to ensure your safety and prevent any further damage.
  2. Open Front Cover:

    • Gently pull open the front cover to access the paper jam area. Make use of any provided handles or tabs.
  3. Carefully Remove Torn Paper:

    • Carefully reach into the jam area to remove any visible paper pieces. If parts are underneath white tabs, use caution not to damage any components.
    • Use a flashlight to see more clearly and tweezers to gently pull paper pieces out. Avoid using force, as it can result in further tearing.
  4. Check Other Areas:

    • Open the rear access door or duplexer (if your model has one) and check for any paper jams there. Removing the duplexer often gives access to hidden paper.
    • Check the input and output tray areas for any loose paper.
  5. Inspect the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder):

    • Open the ADF cover (if equipped) and look for any jams. Clear any paper caught there as well.
  6. Gently Reassemble and Test:

    • After ensuring all paper is removed, close any open doors and reassemble any removed parts.
    • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Run a test print to see if the issue is resolved.
  7. Update Firmware if Necessary:

    • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date, as updates can often resolve minor hardware bugs.
  8. Contact HP Support:

    • If you’re unable to clear the jam or the printer still reports a jam, contact HP Customer Support for further assistance. Provide details of the steps you've taken for more tailored help.

Clearing paper jams can be challenging, especially with small pieces, so handle components carefully to avoid any damage.
