I have a HP Smart tank 5100 Serires from this morning I had my first ever paper jam on this. I removed the paper but since then, I now can't print anything. The paper doesn't seem to catch on the rollers and when it does, it just jams again.

I've tired looking if something is stuck but can't see anything.

The printer is only 11 months old (if that) and has always worked fine before this.

Can anyone help me with what I can do?

Hi @Pip49, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 5100 Series printer is experiencing paper feed issues after the paper jam. Since you've already checked for obstructions, here are some steps to resolve the issue:

Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes to allow the printer to reset.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. Try printing again.

Inspect the Paper Path Again

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power.
  2. Remove any paper from the input tray.
  3. Open the printer’s rear access door or front panel (if available).
  4. Use a flashlight to check for any small pieces of torn paper stuck inside.
  5. Clean the paper feed rollers (explained in Step 3).

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  3. Locate the paper feed rollers inside the printer and gently wipe them.
  4. Allow them to dry completely before trying to print.

Use the Printer’s Cleaning Utility

  1. On your PC, open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant.
  2. Navigate to "Printer Maintenance" > "Clean Paper Feed Rollers."
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Try Different Paper

  • Use a fresh stack of clean, dry, high-quality paper.
  • Fan the paper before placing it in the tray to prevent sheets from sticking together.
  • Ensure the paper size and type settings in the printer match the paper you’re using.

Reset the Printer

  1. Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.
  2. Let go and wait for the printer to restart.
  3. Try printing again.

Update the Printer Firmware

  1. Go to HP Support Website and enter your printer model.
  2. Download and install the latest firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
