HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw Printer

I have an HP 4301 color printer. I am trying to print Avery 8859 business cards using the tray one manual feed feature But I am having a paper feeding problem. Rather than printing from the application I am trying to use the copy feature of this printer to overcome a janning problem that I am encountering. I am trying to copy a two sided color page but I am copying it one side at a time and manually managing the double sided activity.. I put the original in the copy scanner and the business card form into tray one. the top copy goes fine. then I turn both the scanning page and the printed page over to get the back page. The scanning part works fine but when it goes to print the backside of the business card form it gets about three quarters of the way down the page And then stops with the page still Somewhat in the printer and gives me an error message about incorrect paper size/mismatch. I can pull the page free as it is nearly all the way through the mechanism. I find that all but the bottom most pair of business card (there are 5 rows of 2 cards each) are fine, but the bottom most is only about 1/3 printed and is smeared when I pull it out of the mechanism. I have made adjustments to the printer to reduce curl and have gone to manual feeding to print one side at a time to minimize paper movement. Very annoying as I'm wasting a lot of expensive business card forms. HELP. I confess I really regret buying this printer.

It's a capable printer -- that said, unless you are printing on a much lighter weight business card paper, the label sheet is likely too heavy for the printer.

What?

2-sided business card paper perhaps (likely) exceeds the weight supported by the printer.

Should the heavier sheet travel through one time, the flipped sheet might not make it through the second time -- perhaps due to the first printed page rubbing against the rollers.  (This is a comment and a guess - no hate mail from the gallery, please.)

What to do?

Consider...

Select, use, and print on lighter-weight card paper that is closer to the maximum card paper weight tolerated by the printer.

Single sided business card paper is typically lighter weight than the double sided paper and might be better tolerated by the printer.

Likely already done -worth a check --

Make sure Tray and Paper settings in EWS are set to other than plain paper.

Set to a heavier paper type as you find in the paper type list - "Thick" , "Brochure" , or similar.

EWS - Tray and Paper

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next  (in addition and as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default tray

Selecting Paper Types in EWS

Paper type selections available in EWS -- and at the printer when that printer includes a text-input capable Printer Control Panel -- are different from the paper type selections found in the application / software used to configure the print job.

Select a paper type in Tray and Paper that -- as close as possible -- matches the paper type you are using and is selected in the printer software / application you are using to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer.

For example, (if) using

Brochure or Professional paper - matte, select (in EWS):   Brochure, Specialty Paper – Matte, Thick

HP Card paper or Index Paper, if available, select (in EWS):   Plain Paper, Thick  OR  Specialty Paper - Matte

If your Index card paper is close to the weight of Brochure paper and other options are not listed, select Brochure - Matte
