when I try to print an envelope in Microsoft word, I get the paper mismatch error. I've tried every solution from every forum and video to no avail. I purchased this printer new less than 4 months ago on eBay only to find out it has no warranty. I have had issues with this printer since I received it. Stuck offline. printing of random character until the paper tray is empty. Very frustrated. Today I felt like smashing it on the concrete behind my house. If this can't be resolved, I may never purchase another HP product again.

@Michaelmazow

Are you sure about the printer model?

If the printer is instead,

HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer

Then,

Even out of warranty, the printer is not ancient - if the hardware is working, the other issues might be able to be sorted.

The main obstacle:

If you have truly tried "everything", the printer is likely the source of the problems.

Everything covers a lot of territory, in other words.

Would you give us an idea what you have tried?

For example... and please add anything relevant that would help better identify what you have tried...

How is the printer connected to your network?  USB, Wired Ethernet, Wireless, Wi-Fi Direct?

Ethernet is likely best - more stable, fewer drops / problems

What is the connection type - WSD, TPC/IP?  Note:  TCP/IP is best if you have issues running / installing the software.

Are you using a manual / static IP address?

This is another one of those "best" ideas, especially if you have problems staying connected.

Is the router updated / latest firmware installed?  This is frequently a missed component.  Yes, an old, outdated, weak router can impact printer operations.  Also related:  Check the router logs - they might tell you why the printer is dropping.

Have you installed the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software?

The Full Feature Software is important if you are trying to print from Word, for example.

After the essentials have been resolved (printer hardware passes diagnostics, connection is TCP/IP, full software installed)

Next, think about the paper mismatch error...

Is the printer aware of the Paper Size / Type of the paper loaded in the printer?

If not, this alone can sometimes cause a paper mismatch error.

Assuming the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is installed,

Assuming the printer (display panel  or using EWS) has been alerted that you are printing an envelope,

Is the size of the envelope a supported standard size - or is the envelope a custom size (not in the list)?

There are several interactions here all going on at once:

  • Printer must be aware of the paper size / type
  • Full Driver Software must be installed
  • Envelope must be supported - or available as a custom size (might be necessary to set as "custom" even if the size is in the "supported list")

and, add this to the list of "must haves"

  • Printing Preferences, though not directly related to Word > Mailings > Envelope - must be set to something "benign", that is, a setting / shortcut that does not impinge / conflict with the printing of the envelope.  A good choice for Printing Preferences = Shortcut "Everyday Printing".

I can post some examples of most of these items - ask if you need / want more information.
