Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 6030e printer is displaying a "paper tray is open" error and the tray won't close, it can be quite frustrating. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn the printer off and unplug it from the power outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the error clears.

Inspect the Paper Tray Mechanically

  • Remove the paper tray completely.
  • Check for any:
    • Misaligned parts
    • Broken plastic tabs or sliders
    • Jammed paper bits or debris blocking the tray sensors

Look for the plastic tabs on either side of the tray that must align with the printer chassis to indicate it’s closed.

Reinsert the Tray Correctly

  • Slide the tray in gently but firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Ensure it's flush with the printer body—there should be no gap or tilt.

Check for Sensor Obstruction

The paper tray open/close status is detected by an internal sensor or switch.

  • Shine a flashlight inside the paper tray slot and look for a small black or white tab (usually in a corner).
  • Ensure nothing is blocking or misaligning this tab.
  • Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean the area.

Try Printing from the HP Smart App

Sometimes resetting via software helps.

  • Open the HP Smart app on your PC or phone.
  • Go to Settings > Printer Reports > Print Quality Report.
  • Try to print—even if the tray error appears. Some internal processes may force a reset.

Perform a Factory Reset

  • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons at the same time for 5 seconds until the power light blinks.
  • This resets the printer to factory defaults.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
