Just the simple added paper to the paper tray. Now I can't get the tray back in. It stops about a 1/4" from being inserted. Tried fiddling with the various blue paper size tabs, nothing works. I don't see anything in the back that keeps it from going in.

You have accidently set the paper tray in legal mode. There is a lever on the right front of the tray you need to push that level and shrink the tray back.
