@SonnyG1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the HP Envy 5020 printer's sensor isn't detecting that the paper tray is closed properly.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix this issue:

 Reinsert the Paper Tray

Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.

Pull out the paper tray completely.

Check for any small debris, paper scraps, or dust inside the tray slot.

Reinsert the tray firmly until it clicks into place.

Plug in the printer, turn it on, and check if the message disappears.

Check for Obstructions and Sensor Issues

Inspect the paper tray and the area where it slides in for any broken plastic pieces or obstructions.

Look inside the printer (where the tray is inserted) for any small switches or sensors that may be stuck or dirty.

Use a soft cloth or compressed air to clean any dust around the sensor area.

 Perform a Hard Reset

With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.

Wait 60 seconds to allow the printer's internal memory to clear.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet first, then into the printer.

Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

 Update Firmware

If the issue continues, update your printer’s firmware:

Go to HP Support and enter your printer model.

Download and install the latest firmware update for your HP Envy 5020.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
