HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e All-in-One Printer

I have been using my printer with no issues and I recently tried printing and now its saying "print carriage cannot move". I have tried everything and there are no paper jams. How do I fix this?

Hi @Nikknakk09,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When you encounter a "print carriage cannot move" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e printer, it usually indicates an issue with the mechanism that moves the printhead back and forth across the paper during printing. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

  • Turn off the printer: Start by turning off the printer and wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Check for obstructions: Open the printer cover and check for any obstructions that may be blocking the carriage path, such as paper scraps, foreign objects, or even pieces of torn paper that may not be easily visible.
  • Move the carriage: If possible, manually move the carriage gently from side to side. This helps check if there's any physical obstruction preventing its movement. Be very careful not to force it if it doesn’t move easily.
  • Reset the printer: Sometimes a reset can resolve temporary issues. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer while it is still turned on. Wait for about a minute, then plug the power cord back in. Turn the printer back on.
  • Check carriage mechanism: Ensure that the carriage mechanism is not obstructed or damaged. Look for any broken parts or debris that might be causing the issue.
  • Check ink cartridges: Sometimes improperly seated or faulty ink cartridges can cause this error. Open the cartridge access door and ensure that all cartridges are securely installed and properly seated.
  • Update printer firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can sometimes fix bugs and improve performance.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the "print carriage cannot move" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
