Hello, our office has 3 M404n individual, USB Mode, printers, and almost at the same time, they stopped auto-selecting the paper tray. Every time we print it says we need to manual feed tray one, or press ok for tray 2, instead of just printing from whatever tray has paper. Previously, it would default to tray 2, unless we put something in tray 1, and it would default to that.

I have tried:

Checking to be sure that all settings are for printer autoselect, letter, plain paper, across all programs

Rebooting the printer

Removing and reinstalling the printer

Removing the printer and all HP drivers

Reinstalling the printer with the M404n Driver

Reinstalling with the Universal driver

Letting the HP Rep Remote into my computer and do those exact same steps.

Still it is not working!

Please help, we need our printers!

And how do you have the tray settings on the printer itself set?  Tray 2 should be set to plain letter. Also note that setting auto select on a program only tells the printer to use the tray that has the correct paper. If your program is trying to print on A4 or some other paper then regardless of your settings for auto select the printer is going to stop.
