My HP Officejet 6958 All in One Printer is telling me I have a jam, but I've checked and cleared using all troubleshooting tips, and the error will not clear. It prompts me to contact HP Support. Is there anyone who knows what the issue might be or what steps outside of the normal open-remove-clear are available? The product is beyond its warranty period.

Hi @MoMoSyed,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've already gone through the basic troubleshooting steps for clearing a paper jam on your HP Officejet 6958 printer, but the error persists.
Here are some additional steps you can try:
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a simple restart can clear out persistent errors.
- Inspect the Paper Path: Use a flashlight to thoroughly inspect the paper path for any small shreds of paper or foreign objects that may be causing the jam error. Even tiny pieces of paper can trigger the sensor and cause the error message to persist.
- Reset the Printer: Some printers have a reset option in their settings menu. Check your printer's user manual to see if there's a reset procedure you can perform. This might help clear out any lingering error messages.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates include bug fixes and improvements that can resolve issues like persistent error messages. Software and Drivers for HP OfficeJet 6958 All-in-One Printer
- Clean the Rollers: Paper jams can sometimes be caused by dirty or worn-out rollers. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to gently clean the rollers. Be sure to consult your printer's manual for specific instructions on accessing and cleaning the rollers.
- Check for Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with your printer, such as a faulty sensor or motor.

Thank you for your help. I ended up calling tech support and they guided me through most of your steps. It was determined that the printer may have some hardware issues that are past warranty, so I ended up purchasing a new printer. I am not disappointed, as I went ahead and bought an upgrade: HP Laser Jet Color Printer. For anyone having to buy new, the best part about a laser printer is that the cartridges will not dry up if not used regularly. The cartridges are definitely more expensive, but you get the cost benefit of more printouts for a longer period of time, let alone the quality and speed of a laser printer. This may be a little pre-emptive, considering I only just bought the new printer, but all my research brought me to these conclusions. Only negative, aside from the cost of a new printer, are the unused ink cartridges I have for the old one.
