HP Printer began claiming "paper jam" . If I opened the top, then jamned paper tray shut, it would print. This was happening every time I printed a page.
Over and over I make sure there is no jam in the rollers at the top and the rollers at the bottom.
After several weeks of having to repeat those actions, the printer now prints only half a page.
There is no paper jam, the ink cartridges are brand new.
The printer claimes it's jammed and now won't complete even one page of printing.

Hi @DWSP,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issues you're experiencing with your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer could be related to several factors, such as sensor malfunctions, worn-out rollers, firmware problems, or internal mechanical issues. Here are steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Check for Obstructions Thoroughly
- Paper Path: Open all accessible parts of the printer, including the paper input tray, output tray, and rear access panel, and carefully inspect for small bits of paper or debris.
- Sensors: Locate and gently clean the paper jam sensors with a soft cloth. Use canned air to remove any dust around these sensors.
2. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes.
- Reconnect the printer and turn it back on. This can clear minor firmware or hardware glitches.
3. Align Paper Tray and Adjust Guides
- Ensure the paper tray is seated properly and the paper guides are not too tight or loose.
- Check that the paper is loaded correctly, and use only clean, wrinkle-free sheets.
4. Check Rollers
- Clean the rollers using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water.
- Look for signs of wear or damage on the rollers. If they appear worn out, they may need replacement.
5. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Visit the HP Support website, download, and install the latest firmware for your printer model.
- Firmware updates can resolve bugs that might be causing the "paper jam" error.
6. Perform a Printer Diagnostic Test
- Use the HP Smart app or the printer’s built-in menu to perform a diagnostic test.
- Navigate to Settings > Maintenance (or similar) and run a paper path test to check for issues.
7. Verify Ink Cartridges and Printing Preferences
- Ensure the ink cartridges are seated correctly in their slots.
- Check the print driver settings on your computer:
- Go to Devices and Printers > [Your Printer] > Printer Preferences and verify settings for paper size, type, and print quality.
8. Factory Reset the Printer
- If the problem persists, try resetting the printer to factory settings.
- Refer to the user manual for steps specific to your model.
