Hi @Lucasseer,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer shows an error that the flap is open even though it’s physically closed. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power cycle the printer
– Turn the printer off, unplug it for 30 seconds, then power it back on.
– Sometimes the sensor needs a reset to clear a false flap error.

Check for obstructions
– Open the flap and inspect for paper scraps, labels, or dust that may block the sensor.
– Even a small piece of debris can make the printer think the flap is open.

Inspect the flap sensor
– Most printers have a small mechanical switch or optical sensor near the flap.
– Make sure it’s not stuck, misaligned, or damaged. Gently press the sensor with your finger to see if the error clears.

Re-seat the flap
– Open and close the flap firmly, ensuring it clicks into place.
– Some models require the flap to rest fully in the groove for the sensor to detect it properly.

Check for loose or misaligned parts
– If the printer has a removable top cover or input tray lid, make sure everything is seated correctly.
– Even slight misalignment can trigger an “open” warning.

Reset the printer to factory defaults
– If the error persists, go to Settings → Restore Defaults / Reset All Settings.
– This clears any false sensor states stored in the printer’s memory.

Run a self-test page
– This confirms the printer functions normally once the flap error is cleared.

I hope this helps.
