@Penny8964, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP printer is making a squealing noise while printing, it may be due to various reasons such as dust build-up, worn-out rollers, or mechanical issues.

Cleaning the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer: Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source.
  • Remove paper trays and cartridges: Carefully remove the paper trays and toner/ink cartridges.
  • Clean the internal components: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the internal components, paying special attention to the rollers. You can slightly dampen the cloth with water but ensure no liquid gets inside the printer.

Inspect and Replace Rollers:

  • Check roller condition: Inspect the paper rollers for wear and tear. Worn rollers can cause noise and may need replacement.
  • Replace if necessary: If the rollers appear damaged or worn, consider purchasing replacement rollers and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for replacing them.

Lubrication:

  • Use appropriate lubricant: Sometimes, squealing can be caused by dry moving parts. Check your user manual for recommendations on lubricants suitable for your printer model.
  • Apply lubricant carefully: Apply the lubricant to the designated parts (usually instructions specify rollers and gears). Ensure you do not over-lubricate as this can attract dust and dirt.

Check for Loose Parts:

  • Inspect the printer: Ensure there are no loose or misaligned parts inside the printer. Tighten any loose screws or fittings.

Printer Location:

  • Stable surface: Ensure the printer is placed on a stable and flat surface. Sometimes vibrations from the surface can amplify noises.

Firmware and Software Update:

  • Update printer software: Sometimes firmware updates can correct mechanical issues or adjust settings that minimize noise.
  • Download updates: Go to the HP Driver & Software Downloads page, select your printer model, and check for any available updates for your printer.

General Maintenance Tips

  • Keep the printer clean: Regularly clean the printer's exterior and interior components.
  • Avoid overloading paper trays: Ensure the paper trays are not overloaded, as this can cause jams and noise.
  • Use quality paper: Low-quality paper can cause excessive dust build-up and mechanical stress on rollers.

I hope this helps.
