Hi @patty_937,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP ENVY Photo 7858 printer is having trouble recognizing the paper even after you’ve loaded it. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.
Check Paper Type and Size:
- Make sure you're using the correct paper type and size that is compatible with the printer. The tray should be set to the correct size (e.g., A4, Letter) for the paper you're using.
Inspect the Paper Tray:
- Ensure the paper is loaded correctly in the tray. The stack should not be too high or too low. Align the paper properly against the guides and ensure they are snug against the edges without bending the paper.
Clear Paper Jams:
- Check for any paper jams in the printer. Even a small piece of paper stuck in the rollers can cause this issue. If you find any jams, remove them carefully.
Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:
- Sometimes, the rollers can become dirty or worn out. You can clean the rollers using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water. Make sure to let them dry completely before trying to print again.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall. Wait for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.
Try Different Paper:
- Sometimes, the issue might be with the specific pack of paper you’re using. Try using a different type or brand of paper to see if the printer recognizes it.
Factory Reset (as a last resort):
- If none of the above steps work, you might consider performing a factory reset on the printer. Note that this will erase all settings and you’ll need to set up the printer again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
