I cannot print card on my HP OfficeJet  Pro 8710.  I am using the same stock as I did awhile ago (same package) and now it only jams.  It prints fine on normal paper, but not card.  The last time I printed card was about 6 months ago with no issues.

Hi @LN1869,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 jams while printing on cardstock, there are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Paper Settings:

  • Ensure that you've selected the correct paper type in the printer settings for cardstock. If the paper type is set to "Plain Paper," the printer may struggle with thicker stock.
  • Go to Printer Properties on your computer, under the Paper/Quality tab, and select the appropriate cardstock option.

Adjust Paper Tray:

  • Ensure the cardstock is loaded correctly in the paper tray, with the edges aligned properly. Too much paper or improperly loaded paper can cause jams.
  • If you're using the rear feed (if your printer has one), ensure it’s being used for thicker media like cardstock, as it generally handles thicker paper better than the main tray.

Use the Manual Feed:

  • Try feeding the cardstock through the manual feed slot (if available), as it is designed for thicker paper types and can often help reduce jams.

Check Paper Quality:

  • Even though the cardstock seems the same, paper batches can vary slightly in thickness or texture. Ensure it meets the printer's specifications for weight. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 typically supports paper weights up to 250 gsm.

Inspect for Obstructions:

  • Open all paper trays and check for any obstructions or paper pieces stuck inside the printer that might be causing the jams.
  • If there are any bits of paper inside, carefully remove them.

Clean Paper Feed Rollers:

  • The rollers in the paper feed mechanism may be dirty or worn out. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth dampened with water to improve the grip on the cardstock.

Printer Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date, as updates may resolve issues with paper handling.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
