Please try the steps below to resolve and prevent paper jam issues:
1. Clean the paper feed rollers using an automated tool
Dust, paper fiber, and other debris might accumulate on the paper feed rollers and cause paper jams and paper-feed issues. Clean the rollers from the printer control panel.
Turn on the printer, and then wait until the printer is idle and silent.
Load a stack of paper into input tray.
Press and hold the Power button , press the Color Copy button
three times and the Black Copy button
seven times, and then release the Power button
.
The printer starts to clean the paper path rollers.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
2. Clean the paper-pick rollers manually
Clean the paper-pick rollers to help prevent paper feed issues, such as no paper pick, paper jams, and print skew.
Gather the following materials:
A long, lint-free cotton swab
Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might damage the printer)
Press the Power button to turn off the printer, and then unplug the power cord.
Unplug any other cable from the printer.
If necessary, pull up the input tray, or remove any paper from the input tray.
Lift and hold the input tray shield.
CAUTION:
Do not remove the input tray shield. It can prevent debris from falling into the paper path and causing jams or other problems.
Look down through the open input tray and find the gray paper pick rollers. You might need a flashlight to illuminate the area.
Dampen a long cotton swab with bottled or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from the cloth.
Press the swab against the rollers, and then rotate them upwards to clean the rollers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove dust or dirt buildup.
Allow the rollers to dry for 10 or 15 minutes.
Plug in the power cord and any other cable to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer.
3. Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.
Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Wait 60 seconds.
Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
4. Learn how to avoid jams and paper-feed issues
Follow these tips to help prevent paper jams, misfeeds, and no feeds.
Ensure that paper loaded in the input tray lays flat, and the edges are not bent or torn.
When adding paper to the input tray, adjust the paper guide to rest against the edge of the paper stack.
Do not overfill the input tray, but make sure that you have at least 5 pages loaded, for best results.
Only use paper that is compatible with your printer. Do not use paper that is too thick or too thin.
Use HP paper for optimum performance.
Whenever you change the paper size or type in the tray, be sure to change the paper setting on the print menu of the software application you are printing from.
Do not combine different paper types and paper sizes in the input tray; the entire stack of paper in the input tray must be the same size and type.
Avoid using the printer in dusty or dirty environments.
Do not remove the input tray shield. It can prevent debris from falling into the paper path and causing jams or other problems.
If needed, remove paper and close the input tray when not in use.
Remove printed papers from the output tray frequently.
Do not force paper too far down in the input tray.
Do not add paper while the printer is printing. Wait for the printer to prompt before loading paper.
