Hi @kdamon,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing issues with your HP Envy Pro 6458 printer where the paper tray is full but the app displays a "printer tray empty" message, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue.

  • Verify Paper Placement: Double-check that the paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray. Make sure the paper is aligned properly and that it is not too tightly packed.
  • Paper Type and Size: Ensure that the paper type and size settings on the printer match the settings in the printing application. Mismatched settings can lead to errors.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This simple step can sometimes resolve communication issues between the printer and the app.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any available firmware updates for your printer on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can address software bugs and improve overall performance.
  • Restart the App or Computer: Close the printing application or restart your computer to refresh the connection between the app and the printer.
  • Check for Software Updates: Make sure that both the printer driver and the printing app are up-to-date. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest printer driver and update the app to its latest version.
  • Reinstall Printer Driver: Uninstall the printer driver from your computer and reinstall it. Sometimes, corrupted drivers can cause communication issues.
  • Reset Printing System (Mac): If you are using a Mac, you can try resetting the printing system. Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," right-click on the printer, and choose "Reset printing system." Afterward, re-add your printer and check if the issue persists.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Even if the paper tray is full, there might be a paper jam elsewhere in the printer. Open the printer cover and check for any jammed paper. Remove any obstructions and close the cover.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
