@Pep88, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding paper jam!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your printer keeps saying there's a paper jam but you don’t see anything, try these steps:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from power for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Double-Check for Paper Jams

  • Open all access doors (including the back panel if possible).
  • Remove any loose paper from the tray.
  • Look inside with a flashlight for any tiny scraps of paper stuck inside.

3. Clean the Rollers

  • Open the printer and locate the rollers (small rubber cylinders that pull in paper).
  • Use a lint-free cloth dampened with a little water or isopropyl alcohol to clean them.
  • Let them dry before closing the printer.

4. Remove and Reinsert the Paper Stack

  • Take out the paper from the tray.
  • Fan the stack to separate sheets and reload them properly.
  • Make sure the paper size matches the settings on your computer.

5. Run Windows Printer Troubleshooter

  • Press Win + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Manage > Run the troubleshooter.

6. Reset the Printer

  • If none of the above works, try a factory reset (refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions).

If the issue persists, what’s your printer model? I can give more tailored steps! 🚀

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey7886,

I have done all of the your recommended fixes and  my printer an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus still tells me that I have a paper jam in back panel.

@Pep88 important bit of information required as error cause can be very different. WHAT PRINTER DO YOU HAVE?

OK, to narrow down the issue, if you turn the printer off and then restart does the jam error show before you even try to print something? If yes, then you have a paper path sensor flag that is either jammed or broken or the sensor itself has failed. If you get the jam error after trying to print, that would mean that you have a sensor that does not work and the printer is unable to keep track of where the paper is when it is moving through the machine.
