HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I upgraded my HP 8160 printer to the newer model HP9135e this past month and started having an issue printing single checks on this new printer.  The printer has no problems printing a full sheet (3 checks and 2/3 (2 checks), but when I am down to having single check, the printer shows an error message saying the paper is too short.  This seems like a simple change or adjustment to the software programming, but from my reading on the message broads, HP is not willing or able to correct this situation.  Could you please explain why you are not willing to accommodate.

Perhaps you can find a way to have the printer accommodate what you are asking of it.

Is the issue new?
That is, for example, were you able at one point to print a single check on your custom size paper,

and have now "started having an issue printing single checks on this new printer" ?

If the issue is not new - that is, you are seeking a way to make this work for the first time, one or more of the following might be helpful.

If it is not helpful, please consider the content a well intended attempt.

  • Install the full driver printer software for the printer.
  • Create the Custom Size Paper form for the single check.
  • Load the paper narrow sides front and back, side to be printed face down
  • Update the Tray and Paper settings in EWS
  • Print in Landscape to turn the content 90 degrees.
  • During the job configuration / setup, Select the Source / Tray as opposed to leaving it as "Automatic" -- For example, Load your paper into Tray 1 and select Tray 1

Printer Software

If you have not yet done so, (re)install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.

NOTES:

HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan.

The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it.

If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, Fax software is installed to support the setup and use of the Fax driver.

No Sign-in required to use full driver printer software.

Reinstalling?

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.

Reference:  Uninstall HP printer software and drivers / HP Smart

  • If your printer software includes a separate "Help" segment in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.
  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9130 series EasyStart Printer Setup Software - Offline Use Only

In general, the web pack should load -

Download package > Save > Right-Click on the installation Package > Run as Administrator

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

Using USB?  (Re)Connect when instructed to do so.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

HP Universal Scan Software

NOTE:  Model and Operating System version Dependent

Note:  HP Universal Scan Software can be installed as standalone or installed after the full feature printer software.

HP Universal Scan Software installs a new, full featured, (and separate) HP Scan software shortcut to the Desktop.

Reference: Open  HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software  > If needful, Choose a different OS > Open all > Find / Download / Save / Install HP Universal Scan – Full Feature Software and Driver Webpack.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

HP Universal Scan Software includes a larger GUI to make using the software easier on high-resolution screens.   New features have been added to the main menu to help with navigating the settings.

Shortcuts on the Desktop

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

Note Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

  • Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
  • HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model

OR

  • HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
  • HP Scan - Shortcut named for itself

AND / OR

  • When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut
  • NOTE >> If you install the full driver printer software, installing HP Universal Scan as a standalone software from category Software & Drivers is not necessary.  The system will allow you to install both.
