HP office jet 3830

Hi! I am reaching out with printing envelopes / an issue I am encountering. I have an office jet 3830 and am trying to print addresses on a7 envelopes. I have tried to add my own size with the correct dimensions but the printer says that it is the incorrect size document and when I try to change it on the printer itself I can’t add my own dimensions and only the preset ones are available. When I try to print the 5x7 option the alignment on the envelope is not centered. In addition paper jams keep randomly happening. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Hi @Doglover2024,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having a few issues with printing envelopes on your OfficeJet 3830. Here are some steps to address each problem.

Custom Envelope Size

If your printer doesn't allow you to add custom sizes directly through its menu or software, try these steps:

  • Printer Settings: Check the printer settings on your computer. Go to the print dialog (usually found in the application you're printing from), select your printer, and then choose "Properties" or "Preferences." Look for an option to create or define custom paper sizes and input the dimensions for your A7 envelopes.
  • Software Update: Ensure that your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Sometimes updates can add features or fix bugs related to custom sizes.

Envelope Alignment

If the alignment is off when using the preset sizes, try the following:

  • Print Preview: Use the print preview option in your application to check how the envelope will look before printing. Adjust the margins or placement as needed.
  • Manual Feed: Make sure you're using the manual feed tray correctly. Align the envelopes properly in the tray and ensure they are loaded straight.
  • Print Settings: Adjust the print settings for envelope printing in your printer’s software. Some printers have specific settings for envelopes that adjust the print position.

Paper Jams

Frequent paper jams can be frustrating. Here’s what you can do:

  • Check for Obstructions: Open the printer and carefully check for any paper scraps or obstructions in the paper path.
  • Paper Quality: Ensure you're using the correct type and weight of paper for your printer. Envelopes, especially, can cause jams if they are too thick or not compatible with the printer.
  • Paper Loading: Make sure you’re loading the envelopes correctly. Follow the printer's manual for the recommended loading procedures.
  • Rollers: Sometimes the rollers that feed paper into the printer can become dirty or worn.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
