How to Run a cleaning cycle on the HP Smart Tank 5101

Hi @Floridadog,

 

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

For the HP Smart Tank 5101, you can run the printhead cleaning cycle through the HP app:

Load plain white paper into the input tray.

Open the HP app on your computer or mobile device.

Select your HP Smart Tank 5101.

Open Tools or Diagnostics.

Select Print Quality Tools / Clean Printhead.

Follow the on-screen instructions. A test page should print after the cleaning cycle.

 

If the print quality is still poor, the HP app may offer a second- or third-level cleaning. These use progressively more ink, so only continue if the previous cleaning does not resolve the issue.
