Hi @ChrisM1967

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the issue. When scanning through the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, the original document is not feeding correctly and becomes jammed on the left side of the document feeder. We appreciate the details you shared.

Please try the following steps:

Inspect the document feeder path

  • Remove any paper from the ADF.
  • Open the ADF cover and check for small pieces of paper, labels, staples, clips, or debris inside the paper path.
  • Gently remove any obstruction you find.

Clean the ADF rollers and separator pad

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Open the document feeder access area.
  • Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
  • Clean the paper pickup rollers and separator pad.
  • Allow them to dry completely before testing again.

Verify the original documents

  • Ensure pages are clean, flat, and free from folds, wrinkles, tears, or curled edges.
  • Use standard paper sizes supported by the ADF.
  • Align the stack evenly before loading.

Reload the documents properly

  • Tap the pages on a flat surface to align the edges.
  • Insert the stack into the ADF until it stops.
  • Adjust the paper width guides so they rest lightly against the edges of the paper without bending it.

Test with a single sheet

  • Load one clean sheet into the ADF and attempt a scan.
  • If a single sheet feeds correctly but multiple sheets do not, the issue may be related to roller grip or paper condition.

Test using the scanner glass

  • Place the document on the scanner glass and perform a scan.
  • If scanning from the glass works normally, this helps confirm the issue is isolated to the ADF feeding mechanism.

Run HP App diagnostics

  • Open the HP App on the Windows 10 computer.
  • Select your printer.
  • Check for any maintenance or diagnostic options available for the scanner and document feeder.

If the pages consistently pull to the left side even after cleaning the rollers and confirming proper paper alignment, please let us know:

  • Does the jam occur with a single sheet or only multiple sheets?
  • Can the printer make a copy from the ADF, or does it jam during copies as well?

That information will help us provide the next troubleshooting steps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
