HP DeskJet 4155e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

This arm continually comes up and causes a jam in the printer. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting for paper jams on this Hp Deskjet 4155e. Is there any way to repair this piece to avoid replacing the whole printer? It is a small rubber flag below where the ink cartridges slide, just past the paper rollers, coming from the bottom...

Hi @Piketfence,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're describing the paper sensor flag that’s possibly being obstructed or malfunctioning. This small rubber flag is part of the paper detection mechanism and can sometimes get stuck or misaligned, causing false jams.

Here are some potential solutions before considering replacing the entire printer.

  • Check for Obstructions: Gently inspect the area around the sensor flag to see if any small pieces of paper, dust, or debris might be blocking its movement. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean the area.
  • Reset the Rubber Flag: If the flag arm is consistently coming up and causing jams, it might not be returning to its original position. Try to carefully lift the ink carriage (if possible) and reposition or gently push the flag back into place. If it’s stuck or misaligned, carefully adjust it to ensure it moves freely.
  • Lubricate the Arm: If the flag's movement seems stiff, you can apply a very small amount of printer-safe lubricant (such as silicone lubricant) to the flag's hinge or arm. Avoid overapplying, as excess lubricant could attract dust.
  • Check the Sensor: The sensor could be dirty or faulty. Try gently wiping it with a soft cloth, taking care not to damage the sensor or the surrounding parts.
  • Reinstall the Paper Feed Mechanism: If possible, disassemble the paper feed mechanism near where the flag is located and check if it’s properly aligned. Sometimes, reassembling it carefully can fix issues related to misalignment.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
