Hi @RPB231,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that HP Smart Tank 5100 series printers, such as the HP Smart Tank 5107, E4, indicate a paper jam or false paper jam. HP notes the printer can report a jam even when no paper is visible.

What to do next

Since you already checked the visible paper path, HP recommends continuing in this order:

Check all jam areas again:

  • Input tray

  • Output tray

  • Printhead access area

  • Bottom of the printer (important if no paper is visible elsewhere)

Bottom access check: HP says to try this after other jam checks:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord

  • Open the front door

  • Make sure the carriage is all the way to the left

  • Release the printhead cover as instructed

  • Turn the printer so you can access the bottom

  • Open the bottom access door using the two tabs

  • Remove any paper or debris

  • Close everything, reconnect the power, and turn the printer back on

Run the automated paper feed roller cleaning:  For the 5100 series, HP says:

  • Turn on the printer and wait until idle

  • Load paper in the input tray

  • Press and hold the Power button

  • Press the Color Copy button 3 times

  • Press the Black Copy button 7 times

  • Release the Power button

Manually clean the paper-pick rollers HP recommends using:

  • A long, lint-free cotton swab

  • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water

Then clean the grey pickup rollers through the input tray area and let them dry for 10 to 15 minutes.

Reset the printer

  • Turn off the printer

  • Unplug from power

  • Wait 60 seconds

  • Plug directly into a wall outlet

  • Turn the printer back on

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks yes did all that but still wouldn't clear , hp support said needs looking at but they don't offer repair with being out of warranty just by 4 days at the time , they did send a link to find authorised repair agent but it only showed repair agents for commercial printers and not consumer printers so I'm now stuck trying find somewhere to get it repaired, can't believe it went just 4 days after the warranty my last hp printer lasted 12 years with no issues.

Thank you for your response.

Restore printer factory defaults from the control panel

Restoring the printer to factory defaults returns all printer and network settings to the factory defaults.

1. Press the Power button and wait for the printer to completely turn off.

2. Press the Resume button and Black Copy button at the same time.

3. While holding the two buttons, press the Power button to turn on the printer.

 4. Keep holding the Resume button and Black Copy button for 5 seconds, and then release them.

Do let us know how it goes.
