HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw

Subject: Continuous Paper Feed with Random Characters – HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw

Hello,
I am having a serious issue with my HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw printer. When I try to print a document, the printer continuously pulls sheet after sheet of paper, and each page only contains a single line of random or unreadable characters (symbols, code-like text). This keeps going until I cancel the job or turn the printer off.

It looks like the printer is not interpreting the print job correctly. I have already restarted the printer and computer, but the issue remains.

Can you please advise how to fix this? Could it be a driver issue?

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Maya2501,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for contacting HP. We understand that your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw is experiencing a continuous paper feed issue where it prints pages of random, unreadable characters, often a sign of a driver or communication problem between your device and the printer.

1. Cancel All Print Jobs and Restart Devices

  • Turn off the printer.
  • On your computer, open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the printer, click Open queue, and cancel all jobs.
  • Restart both your printer and computer.

2. Uninstall the Current Printer Driver

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw and click Remove device.
  • Then, in Control Panel > Programs and Features, uninstall any HP software related to this printer.

3. Download and Install the Correct HP Driver

4. Print a Test Page

  • Once installed, open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer > Printer properties > Print Test Page.

If the test prints correctly, your issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
