I have an HP ENVY 7640 and am trying to print Avery labels that are on a customized size 8.5 by 7.  How do I load this paper?  I was able to create a customized size but I can't load the paper.

Welcome to the HP User Community.

No mention of the Operating System / version, the Avery template number, or the software you are using to print the labels.

OK - lots of guessing...

In general, supported custom sizes paper of this size can be loaded in the main printer tray.

Reference User Guide

Printer include two trays:

1 photo paper tray for small paper

1 main paper tray for all other paper and sizes

In general,

Avery label (or other) paper loaded in this printer:

 Print side down

"Top" to left side (NOTE:  Orientation is not important if printing in Portrait)

Narrow edge front (and back)

If the label when viewed "upright" is wider than tall, Print in Landscape

If the label when viewed "upright" is more narrow than tall, Print in Portrait

Paper Type = Brochure or similar "thick" paper

If problems, Export completed Word template file to PDF

Print using  Adobe Reader DC

Print a test sheet using plain paper (be sure to select the paper type in Properties).
