This series of printers augments the app / print settings method with an EWS setting

EWS > Print > Default Print Options

Duplex is available on selected paper sizes and paper types.

After the paper is changed -- or the tray is opened and then closed,

Be sure to alert the printer to the Paper Size / Paper Type for that tray - Paper > Trays

Next, 

Adjust / Verify the Print > Default Print Options

EWS - Alternate format type -- Select new InkJet printers and select LaserJet printers

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next (as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default options / tray
