cant print from iphone to correct tray

When I print from my iPhone to this printer, it defaults to Tray 1 (manual feed). How do I set it to Tray 2 (which is full of paper)? I've looked in settings, but do not see a way to set the default paper tray (tray 2).

Welcome to the HP English Community --

True - HP Smart and AirPrint lack the ability to select the tray during the job setup.

What should (might) work is to use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to adjust the Tray and Paper settings --

AND

There is (should be) an EWS setting for defining the "Default Print Options" that includes the Tray.

Note

The use of the words "might" and "should" is deliberate -- The examples I've provided work for the EWS format used in the OfficeJet Pro 91xx series.  Based on what I've seen in your user manual, I am guessing the same format might apply to your printer.  Hope is a poor strategy but here we are.

For your security, some settings in the EWS are password-protected.
If prompted for password, enter the default printer PIN available on the label inside the printer access door. If
you have changed the password, enter your new password

Example - (Alternate EWS format - select new OfficeJet Pro printers and at least a few LaserJet printers)

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next  (in addition and as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default tray
