Can't open carriage access door when trying to fix a document feeder jam when copying

Hi @helloitisme,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I understand you're unable to open the carriage access door while trying to clear a document feeder (ADF) jam during a copy job.

This can happen if the printer is still detecting a paper jam or the carriage is locked in its parked position. Follow these steps to safely clear the jam:

Clear the Document Feeder Jam:

  1. Open the ADF top cover and gently remove any jammed paper using both hands.

  2. Lift the document feeder input tray and check for small pieces of torn paper underneath.

  3. Inspect the ADF rollers and remove any paper scraps or debris that could prevent the jam sensor from resetting.

Open the Carriage Access Door

  1. Turn the printer off, then on again. This allows the carriage to return to its home position and may release the access door lock.

  2. If the door still won't open, with the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer, wait a few seconds, and then gently try opening the carriage access door.

  3. Do not force the door open, as this could damage the latch or internal components.

If the carriage access door remains stuck after these steps, please let us know your HP printer model so we can provide model-specific troubleshooting.

Take care and have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
