Whenever I try and print on card stock, I get a false paper jam error.  I'm pretty sure the rollers just can't pick up the sheet, there isn't an actual paper jam.  I've changed all the settings to reflect a heavy paper, but still no luck.  It's a brand new printer, fresh out of the box.

Hi @nbarese,

I understand your printer is showing a false paper-jam error when printing on cardstock, and the rollers aren’t picking up the sheet. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check That the Cardstock Is Within the Supported Paper Specs
Printers often reject paper that is too thick or rigid.
Confirm the cardstock matches the printer’s maximum GSM rating listed in the user guide.

Adjust the Paper Type Setting to “Cardstock / Heavy / Thick”
This slows the rollers and increases pickup force.
Set this both on the printer (if available) and in the print dialog on your PC.

Load Only a Few Sheets at a Time
Cardstock feeds best in small amounts.
Place 1–3 sheets in the tray, making sure they lie flat and the guides are snug.

Fan and Flex the Cardstock Before Loading
New cardstock can stick together, making it hard for the rollers to grab.
Gently bend or fan the stack to separate the sheets.

Ensure the Paper Guides Aren’t Too Tight or Too Loose
Misaligned guides can prevent the rollers from catching the sheet.
Adjust them so they touch the cardstock lightly without bending it.

Clean the Paper Pickup Rollers
Brand-new rollers can be slick and may need a quick cleaning.
Power off the printer, open the tray area, and wipe the rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.

Try Feeding From a Different Tray or Slot (If the Model Allows)
Some printers handle heavy media better through the rear or manual feed.
Use the straightest possible paper path for thick cardstock.

Test With a Slightly Lighter Cardstock
If a lighter sheet feeds correctly, the issue is roller grip, not a true jam.
This helps confirm if the cardstock thickness is the limiting factor.

I hope this helps.
