Hi @margot
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Envy 7640 might be experiencing a false paper jam error, which can be frustrating.
Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear false errors.
Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:
- Open the printer and locate the paper feed rollers.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the rollers. Let them dry completely before trying to print again.
Check for Obstructions:
- Even if you don’t see paper, small bits or debris might be stuck in the paper path. Use a flashlight to inspect the input tray, output tray, and cartridge access area thoroughly.
Inspect the Sensors:
- The paper jam sensor might be dirty or misaligned. Carefully clean the area around the sensor with a soft, dry cloth.
Update Firmware:
- Visit the HP Support website to check for firmware updates for your printer. Sometimes updates can resolve persistent issues.
Perform a Factory Reset:
- Access the printer's settings menu and look for an option to reset to factory defaults. Be aware that this will erase any custom settings.
