@sjearfaith, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having a paper feed issue with your HP DeskJet 4255e where the paper starts feeding correctly but then shifts to the side and causes a jam. Let's go through some steps to help resolve this:

Check the Paper Quality and Loading

  • Remove all paper from the input tray.
  • Make sure the paper is:
    • Not curled, wrinkled, or torn.
    • Clean and dry.
    • Stacked neatly and aligned.
  • Reload the paper, ensuring it’s snug against the paper width guides without being too tight.

Adjust the Paper Guides

  • The side paper guides should just touch the edges of the paper stack.
  • If they’re too loose or too tight, the paper can skew during feeding.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

Dust or debris on the rollers can cause misfeeds. Here’s how to clean them:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the paper from the tray.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the rollers inside the input tray.
  • Rotate the rollers manually to clean all sides.
  • Let them dry for at least 2 minutes before plugging the printer back in.

Check for Obstructions

  • Use a flashlight to inspect the paper path and tray for any small bits of paper or foreign objects.
  • Remove anything you find carefully.

Update Printer Firmware

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
