prints one line at the top of the page and then ejects the page. Empties the paper tray

Usually causes are a wrong print driver, corrupted print driver or a bad print job. First step is to ensure that the print queue is flushed. https://busys.ca/blog/how-to-clear-printer-queue/

Once that is done, try printing a different document. If the same thing happens, clear the spooler again and then delete and reinstall your printer.

I neglected to mention that the network contains LInux and Microsoft Windows machines, your suggestion gave me a direction to investigate. It appeared that it was on a Linux box. The /var/spool/cups directory had some jobs. I removed the jobs and check several other Linux systems along with the Windows machine, now all seems to function as expected.
