Hello @parker37, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Smart Tank 6001.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please try a few troubleshooting steps provided below so that I can assist you further?

This issue matches an Out of Paper / paper feed problem for HP Smart Tank 6001 series printers. Follow these steps in order.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Check the paper and reload it
    • Remove the paper stack from the input tray.
    • Remove any torn, wrinkled, curled, or bent sheets.
    • Check inside the tray for small scraps or obstructions.
    • Tap the stack on a flat surface to align it evenly.
    • Reload the paper and slide the paper-width guides inward until they touch the paper.
    • Make sure the paper size and type in the printer software or HP Smart app match what is loaded.
  2. Clean the paper rollers in the input tray
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord and disconnect the USB cable.
    • Pull out the input tray and output tray.
    • Find the gray paper pick rollers inside.
    • Use a lint-free swab lightly dampened with distilled, filtered, or bottled water.
    • Press the swab against the rollers and rotate them away from you to remove dust and debris.
    • Reinstall the trays.
    • Let the rollers dry for 10 to 15 minutes.
    • Reconnect power and turn the printer on.
  3. Reset the printer
    • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    • Wait 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord directly to the printer
    • Switch on the printer if it does not switch on automatically

Take care and have an amazing day!
