Hi @Ashley0710,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "Printer Failure" error on your HP OfficeJet 6962 All-in-One Printer, especially when accompanied by a false paper jam message, usually indicates a hardware issue. Since you've already checked for paper jams and debris, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for at least 2-3 minutes.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds (this helps clear any residual power).
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Step 2: Clean the Paper Path & Sensors

Even if there's no visible paper jam, dust or tiny bits of paper in the sensors can trigger false errors.

  1. Open all access doors (input tray, output tray, and back panel).
  2. Use a flashlight to inspect inside the printer.
  3. Gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  4. Check the paper sensor (near the rollers)—if it's stuck, gently move it.

Step 3: Remove & Reseat the Printhead

  1. Turn off the printer and open the ink access door.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges and set them aside.
  3. If your model allows, lift and remove the printhead (check for any loose connections).
  4. Reseat the printhead and reinsert the ink cartridges.
  5. Close the access door and turn the printer on.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  1. Visit the HP Software & Drivers page.
  2. Enter your printer model (HP OfficeJet 6962).
  3. Download and install any available firmware updates.

Step 5: Perform a Semi-Full Reset

If the issue persists, try a semi-full reset (resets the printer to factory defaults).

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold “#” and “9” while turning the printer on.
  3. Keep holding until the printer boots up.
  4. Follow on-screen setup instructions.

Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Printers - 'Printer Failure' Error   There is a problem with the printer or ink system....

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
