Hi @ronlino,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer is not recognizing the envelope size properly and is instead prompting you to enter the paper size manually. This issue could be related to incorrect printer settings or how the envelope is loaded into the printer.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Settings:

  • Paper Size Setting: Ensure the correct envelope size is selected in both the printer settings and your document. Go into the Printer Preferences or Page Setup on your computer and make sure you have chosen the correct envelope size (e.g., #10, DL, C5, etc.).
  • Paper Type Setting: Some printers have a setting for Envelope or Heavyweight Paper. Make sure you select this option to tell the printer that you are printing on an envelope rather than regular paper.

2. Paper Tray or Paper Feed Settings:

  • Load the Envelope Correctly:
    • Make sure the envelope is inserted correctly into the tray. Usually, the envelope should be inserted with the print side facing up and the short edge leading into the printer (though this may vary based on your printer model).
    • Ensure the paper guides in the tray are adjusted correctly to hold the envelope securely in place. If the guides are too loose, it can cause misalignment.
  • Manual Feed (if available): If your printer has a manual feed tray for envelopes, use it to ensure proper alignment. Printers often ask for paper size when it detects paper in the wrong tray.

3. Adjust Printer Alignment:

  • Some printers allow you to adjust the paper size and alignment through the printer's settings. Ensure the printer's paper size and alignment settings match the envelope dimensions.
  • If the printer is off-center, it may not recognize the correct size. In this case, you may need to adjust the print position or margins in your document settings.

4. Use Correct Paper Size in Software:

  • When you go to print the envelope, make sure the correct paper size is selected in your document software (like Word or another application). Sometimes, the software’s print settings don’t match the printer settings, which could lead to a size mismatch.

5. Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you are using the latest drivers for your printer, as outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with specific paper sizes (like envelopes).
    • Go to the printer Hp website

6. Check for Printer Firmware Update:

I hope this helps.
