Alternative drivers when your older model photosmart printer driver is not available from HP

As we all know, HP no longer lets you download their drivers for older model printers like my Photosmart C6280 or my Photosmart C6700.  I have tried using the Microsoft PCL or Generic Drivers that Win11 supplies, but they do not work.

So, my question is

1) Does anyone know of a generic driver that will work with these older model printers ?

2) there are lots of third party sites that let you download hp drivers like Techspot, treexy, softonic.  Has anyone tried those.  Any opinions on if they are safe to use and free of malware?

3) And in case anyone from HP reads this....why not just make them available again to use at our own risk???
