macOS 10.15 Catalina

I am not able to log into my account in HP Smart for MacOS. It starts loading the login page but then it says "Find the open browser window, then sign into your HP account. Note: The window might be behind another browser or minimized".

I searched everywhere and it's nowhere to be found. Does anyone have a solution?

Hi,

Please open System Preferences > General.

What Default Browser is set for your Mac?

First, let's make sure that Safari is selected, then check for any difference, If Safari is already set, I would also recommend changing the Default Browser to another browser as Google Chrome or Firefox and check.

I'm in a similar situation. I recently updated to macOS Monterey v12.1 and suddenly I'm no longer able to use HP Smart. I'm stuck in an endless loop of "Find the open browser window, then sign in to your HP account. Note: The window might be behind another open browser or minimized." when using Chrome and a futile login loop when using Safari. Ultimately, I am unable to scan to my computer which is quite frustrating.

I see, so it seems to be a Monterey Problem. I'm on it as well. Hopefully someone has a solution?

Hey there,

Could you please try opening  System Preferences > General and clarify your default browser?

What browser is currently set as default? may you see any difference when setting any other browser as default?

Hello,

I'm having the exact same issue.  My default browser is set to Google Chrome.  I attempted to make changes to my GC to allow for popups but it did not make a difference.

So, it seems like I somehow fixed the problem by accident. I am using Safari and today it froze and I needed to quit. When I re-opened Safari suddenly the HP log-in pop-up was there and had popped up! I opened HP Smart as well and put in my log-in credentials in the pop-up Safari window. It took a bunch of times where it was trying to log in and then re-loaded the log-in page. I clicked the right top corner in HP smart again which sent me back to the log-in Pop-up window and there, finally it logged in and re-loaded the HP smart app and I was logged in.

Voila!

Running MBP16 on Monterey. HP Smart app is not smart at all and for all I know, it only seems to work with SAFARI. No chrome no firefox. Had been trying to look for the "hidden open browser" for 15mins, then decided to open SAFARI and voila! a new screen pops out of no where with the login; Thats not all! Kept trying to login and while it looped to the same window prompting me to reenter my details for the Nth time. Closed/quit all other browers in the background, then miraculously I was able to login. Tried this with 2 other macs.

- Just shut down all the browers on Mac and stick to SAFARI  when you try to login. works 100% of the time.

***Reason for this is HP Smart only works with SAFARI because it couldn't keep up with the updates. ***

Thanks everyone for raising this issue in the forum.
