Im unbelievably frustrated. I by a HP Laserjet Pro 3001 dwe and it tells me I cant enable printing until I set up a HP smart account. It need a printer pairing code which I cant find anywhere on printer or page that is printed out. I cant get support from HP because they arent accepting my Product serial and product number so they wont talk to me. Any suggestions on finding the pairing code? Is there a away to enable printing without HPSmart? Is this the trend HP is going? I have to spend all weekend upset I bought this thing.

Hi,
Please follow below steps to setup the printer, its configuration should be done via HP Easy Start, please see the Install the printer software section below:

HP Easy Start is one of the worst software setup programs I have ever used. I cannot even get one printer set up with it.
It generated a pairing code and was taking over a half an hour to go through the setup phase (5 phases). I had other things to do rather then sit and watch the screen. Locked my pc and when I came back it had errored out and now I cannot get the pairing code to print again. Worthless software.

I agree with the rest of the comments. This is a terrible setup process. I can not get my pairing code. I've been using HP printers exclusively in my 150 user network. If all of their new printers share the same setup process, I will never buy another HP printer. In the past
Step 1- Connect the printer to the network
Step 2 - Access the printer via the web interface and set IP address
Step 3 - Print
Now I have to set up an account, agree to a bunch of term, enter a code that I can not get, etc...
Xerox, here I come.

To find your Printer Claim Code, print a Web Services Information page from the printer's built-in webpage.
Send a test print job from any device on your network to make sure the printer is connected and can print.
NOTE: You cannot use Web Services or get your Printer Claim Code if your printer is not connected to your wireless network. A USB connection does not work.
Type the printer IP address into a web browser on any device connected to your network to open the printer's built-in website.
To find your printer IP address:
From the touchscreen control panel: Touch the Wireless icon .
From the HP Smart app: Click Printer Settings, and then click Printer Information.
From the printed network report: Press the Information button to print an information page.
From the printer website, find the Web Services menu, and then click Print Info Page or Print Information Sheet.
Find the Printer Code or Printer Claim Code on the page that prints.
If the information page only has the printer's email address, remove and then re-enable Web Services. A new information page prints with the Claim Code.
Regards,
Will

I have tried this process many, many times and spent several hours on the phone with an HP support person. There is no way to force the printer to generate a new code, and there is no way to reset the printer to its factory settings in the hopes that if you wipe it clean it might generate a new code. Does anyone know what the screen below means? I assume that is not a pairing code since it has numbers in it. Can anyone help? I really do not want to have to return this device just because of this pairing issue. It’s a 3101fdwe

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Support Community. Apologies for jumping in here.
Recommended way to setup HP LaserJet Pro 3000 Printer series is via a computer; open a Web browser and go to hpsmart.com/setup
For the HP LaserJet Pro 3000 series, we'll recommend doing a Reset and then redo the setup.
This resource would be useful:

Setup example:

Note that this example is not a HP+ printer.
For a HP+ Unbox and setup, refer to this example :

Both uses the hpsmart.com/setup
Hope that helps!
