HP Color LaserJet Pro M452nw
Microsoft Windows 11

I need to factory restore a Color LaserJet Pro M452nw printer.

I know its IP address for the EWS but have no record of the password.

The default password does not work.

Hello @RBITC, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Since the HP Color LaserJet Pro M452nw is an older model, its EWS security works differently from newer LaserJet models. The M452 user guide confirms that the EWS administrator password is set under System > Administration > Product Security.

To factory reset your HP Color LaserJet Pro M452nw when you do not know the EWS password, you must use the physical control panel on the printer itself

Locating the Default PIN (Alternative)

If you try to access the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) again after the reset, note that newer firmware versions do not use a blank password or "admin". Look for a sticker/label inside the cartridge access door or front door which lists a factory-default PIN or password.

I failed to mention in my original request that the physical settings menu buttons were disabled.

Hence, the instructions "Meghana_10" sent me were not able to work.

Fortunately an AI was able to give me the correct instructions for factory restoring the printer.

During a power off ~ power on cycle while holding the correct menu buttons and letting them go at the right moment I was able to reset the printer.

Thank you for taking the time to come back and share the resolution. @RBITC

We are glad to hear that you were able to successfully restore the printer and regain access to the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M452nw. The additional detail that the control panel settings were disabled certainly explains why the original reset instructions were not successful in your particular case.

We appreciate you sharing the outcome and helping close the loop on the thread. Feedback like this helps other users facing the same challenge.

We are pleased to hear you were able to get the printer reset and working again.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to write to us.

Have a great day!
