HP Envy 7155 Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I can only wireless print through the HP Smart app on my PC, which means I can’t print anything directly from Microsoft Word or from the web .  For example when I try to print from Word, I can select the HP Envy printer from the drop-down list and it appears to print; however, the document remains in the printer que but does not physically print.  How do I fix it?

Hi @METW

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "Printer will only print with HP Smart app" issue.

 Follow the steps below to resolve the issue -

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

 Delete job files and restart

Reset your printing environment, delete print job files manually, and then restart both the computer and the printer.

  • 1. Turn off the printer using the power button and then unplug the printer power cord from the power outlet.

  • 2. In Windows, search for and open Services .

  • 3. In the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and then select Stop .

     Service window the Print Spooler service selected from the Name list and the Stop selection called out.

  • 4. After the service stops, close the Services window.

  • 5. In Windows, search for and open C:WindowsSystem32SpoolPRINTERS.

  • 6. Delete all files in the PRINTERS folder.

  • 7. Shut down your computer.

  • 8. Connect the printer power cord to the power outlet, and then turn on the printer.

  • 9. Turn on the computer, and then try to print. If the issue persists.

uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from software and drivers page

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
